CO2 Confusion

I have heard 2 different thoughts on this issue, hopefully the CO2 gurus on this board can clarify this for me.

I have a 10# tank JBJ regulator solenoid, bubblecounter, reactor, and needle valve. All the good stuff.

One friend told me to open the valve on the tank all the way another said to open it part way.

I know this sounds stupid, but I need to know whcih is the right way.

Thank you for dealing with such a stupid question.

I would think that with that low of a flow that your needle-valve is giving you, that it really doesn't matter how much you open the main tank valve. Opening it even just a little bit will provide FAR greater flow than your needle valve is giving out, so I can't see how opening it more would make any difference at all. On the other hand, I also see no harm with only opening it a bit, as long as you're getting your desires bubble-rate. Hope that helps...

No, I got it for a really really good price from the one guy who said open it all the way.

He thinks the instructions said that. They (instructions) have long since been delegated to file 13 (garbage).

Hence the conflicting opinions.

The typical setup would be to open the tank's valve fully. The JBJ's main valve will reduce the tanks's 900+psi down to ~40psi to the needle valve. Then set the needle valve to whatever bubble count you want.

With the valve fully opened the valve stem is backseated against the packing, which minimizes the possibility of leakage at this point.
