I have no idea to be honest. Both ponds are connected to a water source, so when the float is low, water is added.

Sometimes the float in the turtle pond gets jammed, causing it to not release water when the water level is low... leading to the water level dropping a good 3-4 inches over the period of a few days.

I would think it's so hot and dry out there a shade tree of some sort would help greatly.

Unfortunately so... The pump is broken, and a major section of the plumbing needs to be repaired, which would all cost several hundred dollars. Unfortunately we don't have the money to make all of these repairs so I'm looking for a new home for the turtles, and the pond is coming down. It's sad but my parents warned me that I'd have to re-home them before I went off to college anyway, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to find them a good home.
