Hagen AC 200

Hi,

I just got my Hagen AquaClear 200 for my soon-to-be planted tank. It came with two different kinds of media - a sponge and a sack full of carbon. I put the sponge in there already but not the carbon because wouldn't it filter out my ferts etc.? Are there any advantages to having carbon in a planted tank? I'm just wondering because my filter chamber is only 1/3 full, maybe I should add another sponge?

Eddie

THere's no advantage on using carbon for the planted tank. Buy an additional sponge and use 2 sponges in ur AQ. It'll give you more mechanical and biological filtiration.

Yep, and keep the carbon bag in case you need it to removed medications in the future (but I hope you won't have to)

Alright, thanks guys. I'm gonna be putting the carbon bag in there for just a few days to get rid of the tannins that my new driftwood is releasing. Then I'll take it out when I start planting...

Being a smarta$$, wouldn't THAT be an advantage?
