Personally, I'd recommend taking the salary and training. I'd strongly suggest you try and get your MCSE. I have some frinds who work it for Pioneer, they're always looking for IT staff and biotech is a strong field with excellent growth.

If I can help in anyway, please don't hesitate to ask.

It sounds like things are going to be on the upswing for you. Good luck with your decision and we're all sure something good will turn out!!

What looks like bad news on the surface might be a blessing in disguise! Let's hope so. Regardless of how it turns out, it's always a bummer to be ousted. Just remember "Where there is a shadow, there is a light."
Enjoy the camping trip, man. Unwind.

Hang in there Gareth, at least you tanks are in order now. Sounds like you will have no problems with your skill set. It seems IT is picking up again anyhow. We have been hiring like crazy after laying off 50% of our workforce two years ago.

My small Antique Bussiness has been down the tubes this year, The tourist I usually count on through the summer are not here this year and the ones that are here are not buying. The dealers I sell to are in the same boat so they aren't buying. I started to look for part time to make ends meet so I can still keep my dream somewhat alive. Its a tough time to be self employed selling stuff people can do without.Hope things turn around for everybody soon!! The clock is ticking...

I'm so sorry to hear about the job woes I'm currently employed with two jobs -- but my primary job has been giving me a huge amount of grief over the last year since a scantily-dressed, air-for-brains coworker arrived. Since there is only 3 of us including the boss in this department, everything is very blatant. Time falsifying, etc. etc. of course, never in my benefit. I've applied for another job, but I will have to keep my fingers crossed. If something doesn't change, I'm going to go crazy.

I hope the job/school/etc situations for all of you improve soon. I try to look at changes like these as for a purpose -- maybe something good lies ahead...

The job market right now in much of the US and Canada is just plain bad. I've been unemployed since Feb. 13th, which was a Friday btw.

I'm in much the same situation as Gareth; Several years of experience, no certifications, but my skillset is rather uncommon. There's really not a certification for my area of work. I could go get something like and MSCE, but that would only be looked at as a secondary thing behind my experience. A friend just informed me yesterday of a company that might need some contract work done that is right up my alley. So, hopefully I'll have something to do in the next week or so.

Good luck with whatever route you decide to take G. And good luck to everyone else on here that's looking.

I JUST got a full time job again after getting laid off in January. I have had a part time job and been getting unemployment so I have managed, but this job couldnt come at a better time. Its only $8 an hour for the first 90 days, I hope they still want me when that time comes, I should get a salaried position after that. Weird thing is that i'm only making $8 an hour but I still get my own office with a door!

Congrats, Gareth.

I love the "...I think" in your post. The last time I was in a similar situation, I waffled back and forth so many times! Keep us posted eh?

Did you have a good camping trip?
