what's wrong with my pleco? (dial up warning!)

My sweet little pleco (probably L. pardalis) has grown some ears. I can't get a good picture, but this sort of shows what he's got. Those lobes above and to the anterior of his pectorals are new, as is the bubble-shaped lump on the right one. He's acting OK, but I'm a tad worried. I'll inquire at planetcatfish but was wondering if any of y'all recognized this. The fish is around 5 years old, around 16" long, and has never had any health issues.

Any ideas? and any suggestions on how to take a photo of a fish from the top? (I'm sorry that my photo editing skills and software don't allow me to reduce the resolution on this picture without losing the relevant details. And how to take a top-down photo without alot of reflections? Dunno. Had a hard time keeping my hair out of the shot and camera dry!)

Default Mutation

He's mutated. Best get rid of him before his next mutation and he takes over the tank. I'd guess he's spent too much time swimming next to the nuclear power plant when he was a kid.

Ok I think he's getting a tumor of some sort. Shouldn't worry about it. It can spread to other fishies in the tank though

I wish I could help you out with this Mori, but I don't have any experience with plecos and have never seen what your guy seems to have. Has there been any change? How's his behaviour otherwise?

Have you tried posting at any more fish-centric forums?

Try asking on this site: http://www.planetcatfish.com/core/.

Probably lots of Pleco experts there...

Thanks y'all...I tried some fishier spots (including planetcatfish) without luck. He's developed another lump on his new flap but is still acting normally.

I guess this means we shouldn't eat him.

he's just about eatin' size, he and his buddy. Mmmm catfish.

I don't really like catfish. Tastes like dirt, but I haven't had this type of catfish! He should taste like $300 worth of fish food, which is probably what he's eaten so far.

Of course I wouldn't eat him! He has GROWTHS!

I'm sure he still tastes sweet, though.
