stopped by petco union square

They had Bolivian rams and GBRs, both were good size. One GBR in the tank was dead and another one was about to die. 5.69 for Bolivian and 6.50 or so for GBRs.

Amano shrimps are small lately at Petco.

They had quite a few dwarf puffers but they're very very small. about slightly bigger than half an inch. They looked quite healthy, but I feel bad for those other fish in the tank, getting chased around + nipped by little puffers.

I bought one DP who I think is a male. He's been chasing my female DP at home when I put him in this afternoon. I'm gonna check tonight and if he's still doing that, he'll probably have to go back to Petco. My girl DP is too cute and naive for his aggression, though she's twice-three times his size.

Anyone ever return live fish at Petco Union Square?

I've returned live fish there before. Easy and harmless.

I think Frank also has DPs stocked FWIW.

Did you return the fish for a refund?

I know Frank has it, his price is better too. I contacted him earlier last week. But he didn't know how to sex them, plus his DPs are, according to him, too small to sex yet. And there's no way for me to go to his place in LI, so when I heard that Petco has DPs, I went to picked the most male looking one.

Hey New Yorkers, anyone in manhattan or nearby boroughs keep low-tech planted tanks? i.e. no co2 or high power lights?

I'm an independent journalist, and keeper of low-tech planted tanks. I've worked for ESPN, Fast Company and the Villager. elbertchu.com Looking for someone to represent for us in a quick short video piece. Does anyone have nice tanks and want to tell your story about why we do what we do? Thanks!

Btw, for nano-keepers or people who like small fish— I dropped-by union sq petco on saturday and couldn't resist a bumblebee goby and a livebearer halfbeak, each < $3

Yup, returned them for a refund. Think they have a 14 day policy, could be wrong.

You can always annoy Frank in Brooklyn like the rest of us.

He lives out in LI but travels to work in Brooklyn (NY Aquarium) from Sun-Thur every week. You can look at his website and contact him by email to arrange pick up in LI or Brooklyn.
