I saw them in Pacific aquarium and Win tropical aquarium. Both of these shops are in the lower east side.

Win has some rare African tetras- Alestopetersius smykalai, sold as blue tailed Congo tetras, Micralestes stormsi (or occidentalis) sold as Congo tetras, Alestes longipinnis, & Neolebias ansorgii, sold as black morpho tetras. The Neolebias are 2 bucks each!

Cool! I bought nine longipuiniis that he had a few weeks back. Best purchase I've made in a while. I've been looking for some of those others too. Thanks for the heads up.

Last time I was at Win there weren't any common Phenacogrammus interuptus
Congo tetras, just the oddball species I mentioned. Pacific has 1" unsexable Congos for I think $4.99 or 3 for $10. They also have black emperor tetras for $4.99 or 3 for $10, sparkling gouramis for $3.99 ea. or 3 for $7.98, & a tankful of black phantom tetras covered with Ich.

I was at Wins yesterday and there were a few good sized Congo Tetras in the first tank to the left (across from the discus tanks). I'm pretty sure they were $6.50 each. I was more interested in the black morpho tetras. Unfortunately, they were gone. So who here on the forum bought them?

I don't know of any local "stores", but check out Franksaquarium.com. He's on Long Island and often has gobies available.

I know, he is my usual source...but getting to pick them up is a hike from manhattan without a car...

You can arrange with him to pick them up at the New York Aquarium, where he works.

Yeah, he is pretty awesome. I have met him at the New York aquarium before, but that is the hike i was complaining about...

I don't understand why people in NY don't have taste when it comes to stocking freshwater species. Aren't you all tired of getting all excited for Blue Rams, otos, fancy guppies, tetras and corys!?! Especially among planted folks, you should all be looking for stuff that accentuates your plants and gives your tanks / setups a more chill / natural vibe.

Start demanding gobies people...and none of that bumble bee goby stuff (even though they are cute).

Most true gobies are brackish water fish, or, like Stiphodon or Rhinogobius, need a strong current in their tank. Neither of these conditions make for a great planted tank. Peacock GUDGEONS, however...
