DIY reactor VS XP3 as reactor

I am swapping out my Marineland 350 pro for a used Filstar XP3 that I picked up cheap. Originally I had planned to pipe in the CO2 using an inline piece that I made. But I've read that CO2 has a corrosive effect and can damage the filter impeller or build up O2 in the cannister itself. Has anyone dealt with this? What is the solution? Advise, concerns, ideas are welcome. Should I build an inline reactor instead? I also have a diffuser coming in soon but I prefer to keep as much of my equipment out of my tank as possible (I bought it just in case). Here is a pic of the piece I made to run on the intake tube.

Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, John and his friend Sally both spotted a dalmatian inside of a truck with sirens. The animal with John and Sally is a _ _ _?
