Question on new MH lighting

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but I've never had MH lighting before and spent hours searching the web for an answer.

I read somewhere that MH lights have a blue tinge to them when you first get them, until they burn in and then turn the proper spec. I just got my new MH lights yesturday and plugged them in only to find that they are incredibly blue... Is this normal? or did I not get the 55K that was suposed to come with the fixtures. The bulb is not marked and the packaging is no help. They are supposed to be Coralife 55K.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since you are unsure of the bulb I would obtain a known bulb and see if it matches the one you have once installed. Take a look at this site you can look at the same tank with various bulbs and see if any match or come close to what you see. While I realize these pictures are of a reef and the bulbs are 250W it should still give you some idea of the color temp of the bulb you have.

Thanks Gnatster,

I actually found that if I 1. wake up and 2. put my glasses on, it's printed on the bulb. Duh, new one on the way!!
