Eco Complete Question?

I finally decided to go with Eco Complete. I'm using a 75gal tank that's been setup for couple yrs. Exchanging out the gravel. Was going to try to keep as much mulm in the tank as possible.'

here's the Q: The instructions say to ditch the enclosed water w/ beneficial bacteria if putting in established tank. Not sure if 'established' means in relation to me taking all the gravel out...but having some mulm at bottom, and a fully functioning bacteria colony in my Eheim 2215 can.

I'm thinking I can throw the water away....thoughts???

Thanks!
Chris

You can definately throw away the liquid amazon and try to rinse out the eco. There has been much discussions on other forums recently about the liquid amazon having a buffering effect and driving the ph up for a month or two. I would definately try to ditch as much of the liquid as possible. I have heard of many people just throwing the liquid in there as well, and other than the buffering, no ill side effects. I really wonder what it is in the liquid. I wonder if it is just some sort of fertilizer packed in with the product.

Thanks Alot Matt! Got it emptied of old gravel and saved quite a bit of mulm..yuch!
Letting hands get over a bit of "dish pan hands" syndrome hehe

I appreciate the fast response as I really didn't know what to do. Read an article off the AGA...one of those mag articles..about liking 3"'s in front and 5" in back. The calc. for 3" of eco suggested 140lbs or 7 bags. Got 6 (fantastic price 2/$30!) and can get another 2 next week if necessary. But am thinking I'll need perhaps more if I need 5"'s in the rear....or just use say an inch of my old gravel back there and top w/ 4"...decisions/decisions lol

I would keep the liquid from the EC...it will only last till next water change anyway, no harm, I just setup a 55g last week, I used lots of old mulm and put EC over it with liquid, and I must say the tank is amazing, no blooms of any kind, water is crystal clear.. instant cycle..

thats my experience.

Well, I ditched it anyway. I added quite a bit of mulm back plus Im sure by now that 2215 is full of good stuff

The tank looks amazing.

I just want to say that the liquid in my Eco complete did NOTHING to affect pH or Kh of my 20 gallon tank, when I swapped out the flourite for Eco.

Ditto to that. My 30g with 40lbs of eco has been sitting patiently for two weeks now waiting for plants and the PH is still the same as my tap water.
