Well I installed 3, 160 watt VHO lamps lat night and the light intesity is great, exactly what I was looking for. However I havea couple of annoying issues I need to fix.

1.) The 6500k lamps are very yellow-greenish (not attractive)
2.) The CRI is a little low (76)

I was thinking about picking up another ballast and overdriving a pair of Chroma 50's to compensate. How much wattage can you crank through one of those? As long as the bulb can last around 3 months I'm happy

I added two power glo bulbs to teh canopy tonight to try and compensate for the really yellow/green light. It made a little difference, but not enough to matter.

I'm not sure what to do at this point yet, I just want to make the tank look more white.

You should see mine. I use small bullet connectors, directly connected to the pins. I need to get some good endcaps before I burn my house down.

GDominy, where did you get those VHO 6500K tubes anyway? They definitely look green in that picture!

I bought the bulbs from an industrial lighting supply house, they pretty much know me by name now. Heh...

The bulbs are actually quite white, but the reflection of the untreated wood, and the purple light of the power glows is making it look a lot greener then it is.

Believe it or not I pulled those endcaps out of an outdoor certified 4 foot fixture! The VHOP endcaps are a MUCH higher quality, and have a rubber sealing ring around each one. Very cool.
