Rocks?
While I was at the LFS I purchased some rocks. When I got home I noticed the edges are pretty sharp. I like the look and everything but, will this be bad for fish? These rocks wont be permanent. I'm still looking at different rocks I can get, but if sharp edges effect fish enough, I'll know what to stay clear of. BTW what kind of rocks are these anyway?

the colors remind me of a slate but with the Qtz banding i lean more to-wads a feldspar granite. but with the lack of christiline structure I'm gonna say a hematite with hydrothermal veining.
if there are any more geologist on here maybe you can see some thing i dint. |

If you like the rocks and the sharp edges are the only thing you are worried about why not go buy a large rasp or file at the hardware store and just knock down the edges. I bet it wouldn't take an hour to blunt all of them.

All I do with sharp edges on my rocks is take them and rub them back and forth on my sidewalk. You can even take the time to draw sidewalk pictures with the kids and make a game out of it, lol!

Ive seen quite a few scapes with sharp edged rocks before, but Im not sure if it caused any problems with fauna. That being said, Ive never seen red rock like this before either so I wonder how it would look wet and under lighting..
Im so glad Kyle decided to go with the new "Aquascaping forum"!!!! Go me! Hahaha! Regards, Orlando |
