Sea Monkeys As food?
Hello all! I know that Sea monkeys (BBS) are a good food scource for Fry! I was wondering If I could use the whole kit they give you to feed my fry? Does it have chemicals? Also If it is bad for the fish is their another way? I heard of using epsom salt, But will that work? Any comments Appreciated!

Do a Google search on raising brine shrimp. Buying brine shrimp eggs from a pet store will be much cheaper than getting them in a Sea Monkey kit.
That said, if you already have the kit, there shouldn't be anything wrong in using the resulting "monkeys" as fish food. Although the small container that comes with the kit really isn't big enough to raise much shrimp. Most sites I've read recommend using multiple 10 gallon tanks (or like sized containers) for growing out the shrimp. |

Yes I have a 20g tall that has notjing in it and I was going to raise them in that! I have the "kit" already from a teacher who didnt use it! Well If the containers are small What should I use for the starting salt? Like above I mentioned Epson salt! I did a google search but found no Personal experiences with Sea Monkeys!

I used rock salt when I was a kid to raise brine shrimp. Kosher sea salt would probably work just as well and be easier to dissolve. About 1 cup of salt per gallon of dechlorinated water according to a science page I found. pH should be kept ~8. A better option is to use regular marine salt water mix, but that can get pricy.
Here's a link to a page on raising brine shrimp... Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, so not the right type of salt for making salt water (which is sodium chloride-based). |

You get somewhat better hatch rates using a marine salt mix (ie. Instant Ocean), but consider the low cost of eggs, simple aquarium/rock/kosher salt is just fine.
I always raised mine in an ice cream bucket. Keep it covered and aerated and warm and you'll have more BS than your TV.
