Light on a tall tank

My tank's dimensions are 18X20X25, 40 Gallons. I currently have 48W of CF lights on it, but I have another 48 handy. I'd like to save on the electricity if I can get buy on 48W for the majority of low light plants listed in the sticky. What do you guys think?

I currently have some flame, java and taiwan moss as well as some anubias in the tank. I only have an angel in it currently.

If you're just going to have low-light plants, that may be enough. 25 inches is pretty deep...I wouldn't venture out of anubias, moss, maybe some crypts and swords.

I really liked pennywort and I would like some color, so I was thinking Sunset Hygro. Otherwise yea mainly crypts. I feel swords can get too big. I had 2 take over my 55 once on my first planted tank.

That's pretty deep for regular CF. My tank is 34 gallon/24" deep and I'm only running 48w of T5HO. I haven't had trouble growing anything yet. In fact I'm amazed at how fast everything is growing considering I only dose with Flourish and Excel.

Are we talking about Brazilian Pennywort? If so, this plant can cope with light from low to very high; but it will be quickly shooting to where the light is strongest, and chances are that the lower leaves will look poor.

vals might work too. i cant guarantee their survival but some tall val. americanas look great in tall tanks. and the good thing is theyre cheap enough to experiment with lots of them.
