Low Tech Advice

Hi, I want to make my 55 a low tech tank for now.

As for the equipment I have:

2 WPG thru AHSupply Retro 2x55W 65K Bulbs
Fluval 405 Canister Filter
Florite Substrate
Pressurized Co2
Dry ferts

So with my equipment basiclly I want to create a lower maintaince tank.
Would I be able to do this with my equipment? I dont mind doing pressurized Co2 and Ferts if i have too, as I have all of this already,
but I didnt want to do the EI method due to the maintaince and changing 50% of the water each week. I want lower maintaince for this tank.

Im just not sure how to ultilize my equipment to make this a low maintaince planted tank that still yields good results?

So one of my questions is the lighting, if the light is too much to be considered low Tech, If I only ran them for 6-8 hrs, would that help, and any other tips, or suggestions to make this work?

Are the lights run on one ballast or two separate ones?

If two, run one for most of the day and the other for 3-5 hours.

And then sell your CO2 setup to me.

Since I have 2 seperate lights I dont think I could do this. The tank is 48" long, and I have (2) 24" lights. I could have 1 turn on but only 1 side of the tank would be lit and I dont think this would balance out the light.

Id sell you my Co2 but eventually I will go High tech so I dont want to part with the co2 system

Ah, no, that wouldn't work.

Meh, Maxed out my 6-port manifold. I'm on the hunt for a new setup.

Since lighting is one of the main factors that tells plants how fast to grow, I think as long as you don't run too long a photoperiod you should be able to achieve a low-maintenance tank with your setup. Plant species selections will also factor in (ie, once the tank has established, slowly reduce the number of fast-growing stems, and go with more rooted plants like swords, crypts, etc)
