slowly planting predator tank

so ive been getting more and more sucked back into the world of aquaria and decided to set up a juvie predator tank till they growout this year,giving me time to build either a monster tank or maybe even monster pond

so the items i collected to put together ;
45 breeder tank
on sale AC70 hob
t5 light strip . 80 watts.67k bulbs.
LOTS of free river rocks and black deco gravel of medium and small size.and 3 pieces of slate as sort of hard spots of floor instead of all gravel
a grey pvc 2inch id for my CK's

really didnt choose out plants rather moved them from my stock hoping theyll work in this tank
flora
-anacharis
-baby narrow fern
-rotala .... the red one
-a stem i ttly forget the name of
fauna
silver and gold clownknife
silver aro
very fast brother/sister yoyos
a ceylon healing from war with crayfish.
a handful of fry and shrimp.


now............ what plants can grow well in this setup??? i really rather not swap subs for now. maybe when they(ck and aro) get bigger and can move them out then i will plan for a sand type.
any comments /advice appreciated!

What brand strip light is that, Hagen glo? By switching to a canister filter and adding lots of CO2, you could probably grow anything you want with that light, with some exceptions. More than you think, I bet.

Even for low tech, I would personally try all kinds of plants, but would concentrate on less demanding ones overall.

hey a reply! :P yea it is a glo light . i added a zoomed501 to the right side and outflowbar vertical to add more flow with the ac70.

i was wondering more what type of plants would actually root in the type of sub i had? the the plants right now seem to be striving. i added some crpts too.
i dont really wanna go co2 since max i would go is 1bps because the fish dont really like it i bet.

i think im going to change the caves to bigger ones to since one of the clowns hit 6inches. will get pics up .

They could probably handle more than that, but I have a thing about CO2 and larger fish too.

I was going to say crypts, you could add some balansae for the tall grassy look. You could probably get away with some Lillaeopsis and Eleocharis species huddled in various areas, but overall it'll be hard to find a low grower that fills in over those large rocks. Hygrophila sp. 'Porto Velho' might work though, check out Marsilea, too.

For stems, there are too many to mention that don't need CO2 and would bust out under your light. Check this link out, enter in 'easy' for the 'hardiness' drop down and click go, you could probably do a lot of the moderate ones as well. yea 150 gallon in the works for them since theyll growout the breeder this year. tryin to build plans for a indoor pond or else connect the outponds to make one monster pond.

making a trip to a lfs today pickup my aba and a few plants well see how it goes!

Have you thought of a plywood tank? If I had an arowana I'd personally build a 500 or 1000 gallon plywood tank. I always thought we could get away with a big pond of them here, with a bridge for airborne feeding . Someone would probably shut me down though, in this state, would be cool though.

omg i will look into it... i was thinking of a raised river type pond technically inside. near the courtyard of our house.. a big tank like that nd some type of water fall into a river pond would be bad assss.... nice posts!

the 150 gallon would house them okay for awhile tho i like tanks with predators . so awesome to see there every move. both are sweet depends what u can handle guess
