I'm trying to find some resources on the net about aquatic plants that are locally native to my area. I was thinking about starting up a tank with all native plants and fish.
Does any one know of a resource(s) on the web that might have listings of native species and where to collect them? I've not had much luck with Texas Parks and Wildlife, or any US Gov't web sites. This is more for the Central Texas region, but any information would help.

Go to the library, there is a two volume book on the aquatic and wetland plants in your region, they might have it. We have it at work, I'll get the info for you tomorrow.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer. It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot. That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot". |

Thanks for the info, this is what I was looking for.
There wasn't a specific type of plant that I was looking for, but rather place to gather it from and what locations would be good for that. Now I just need to start gathering stuff for it. I know other people have had to of done this before, but I haven't seen much info about it or pictures of other peoples tanks. Is there anyone on here that has?

I am always on the lookout for new native plants and wood to try, early in the growing season is the best time to get your plants. Some of my finds have done great and some have failed miserably, but hey, thats half the fun.
My best find to date is Samolus valerandi and I still have it in my tank. The hardest part is IDing the variety. Be sure to keep a good eye on the surrounding plants and wood for insect larvae and/or disease... you dont want a nice batch of eggs hatching in your house...
