I was wondering if any of you have planted african cichlid tanks, or especially african peacoks of any kind. I'd love to see your set up. I'm thinking about making my 55g into one, plz share, looking for ideas...

I did have one, but it became too much trouble with fish digging up plants all the time. If you want you could go to cichlid forum and look for my old tank there, under my user name that I have here.
That might give you some ideas. Paul

You mean Lake Malawi peacocks right? They are still digger. I still have a planted cichlid tank and about to give up. Whether or not the peacocks dig depends on whether you have more dominant fish. The dominant cichlid is usually the heavy digger. My peacocks don't dig when they are with my red zebras because they are less dominant. If I take out the zebras, the peacock will take over.
If you do build one, just forget about stemplants unless you're willing to replant them every day or squeeze them between rocks (plant holder won't work either). You have to go with more swords and crypts. None of my cichlids touch them. |
