Planted Tank

I am about to setup a 46g bowfront tank. It will have 40# of ADA Amazonia soil!Eheim canister filter and led lighting. My question is without using co2 what plant recommendation would you make?

Default Low Tech Tanks

Hello Bob...

I have a 45 G tall tank with lower light. I have Anubias nana, Anubias nangi and Java fern on the bottom. Plants that are dark green require lower light, so they work well in taller tanks. I float Hornwort in the tank so my fish have places to hide and the fry can avoid the adults.

Large, frequent water changes replace minerals that filtration will remove. The fish and plants thrive in pure water conditions. Attached is a pic of the tank.

B

I have a 45g with vallisneria, ambulia, hygrophila corymbosa, hygrophila polysperma, crypts, anubias and a sword. I just have a 30W light and dose flourish twice a week, no co2, and my plants are doing well.

BBradbury - love the look on that. I am starting out too, with anubius and anacharis as the floater.
What temperature do you keep the tank? I'd like mine without a heater.

Bob B - lists are on the top as a sticky. Wading through other posts will get the same answers. Local store has the anubius and anacharis. Little warm to ship things, I've read. So I'm setting up the tanks and patiently waiting for cooler weather.

Best of luck!

Go with anything your light can handle and throw a TON of plants in there. ADA Aquasoil Amazonia really fueled algae growth in one of my tanks I believe, so fill your tank with plants from the start!
