I don't live in Austin, but have been there a few times. Nice city, got a good night life if your into that kind of thing. Most notably having to do with UT. Have you ever visited it before?

Yes, I flew there for Valentine's Day back in February. I'm moving in 17 days. Great town.

Yep Are you a member at the DP site? You should sign up at the forum

My favorite LFS by far is AquaTek. They are overpriced but they have the best selection and healthiest plants.

I also like Austin Aquariums but they are mainly a marine LFS and have a limitied FW selection. Not very many plants either.

I don't really care for Amazonia or AquaDome. They're both kinda grungy with lots of sick fish.

Aquatek is great! They're setting up a planted tank in the back corner that is going to look great once it grows in. It's just amazing that the people actually know what they're talking about there.

I also found this place on N 183 just past McNeil called River City Aquatics which was really great. It's small, but when I went everything was really clean. That's where I bought my 55 gallon setup a week or so ago and he gave me a GREAT deal on it. He was able to order me exactly what I wanted for my tank (130watt coralife instead of the strip light, eheim instead of an emperor, glass tops instead of plastic, etc) and the prices were as good as Dr. Fosters and Smiths (he matched several things to web prices). He's kind of low on plants, but other than that I highly recommend you check him out.

I haven't been to Amazonia yet but I've heard they've gone down hill recently.

I'm the newest member to the DP site .

If you ever have any clippings that you are planning to throw away I would love to take them off your hands, just to keep the landfills empty and to "keep austin weird"! LOL

Yes, AquaTek is awesome! They definitely know more about what they're selling than anyone else in the area. There's an Asian guy there named David who knows the scientific name of just about every plant you describe to him. He's really helped me a lot.

Is River City Aquatics the new one at 183 and Anderson Mill? I heard there's also another one called Horizon Pets but I don't know which is which. I remember that the store at Anderson Mill and 183 had a whole tankfull of DP's.

I don't have any clippings at the moment but I'll let ya know next time I do

The one at 183 and Anderson Mill is Horizon Pets. They're pretty cool too, I didn't have a chance to look around a lot, but what I saw was nice.

River City Aquatics is a little bit before that on 183 N.

I've heard rumor that the guys who own River City Aquatics and Horizon Pets both use to work at Amazonia for a long time, but left because they didn't like the direction it was going.

Oh, so they are two different stores! I will have to look for River City Aquatics.... I never did find them. I live in South Austin, though, so I'm not up there very often. Sounds like River City is worth a visit

I know that the guy at Horizon Pets is the same guy that ran Pet Corral in South Austin (which is closed now). I think I also heard they both used to work at Amazonia.

Amazonia really was nice before but I've gotten to where I don't even wanna go there anymore.
