ADA Mini-M CPD Paradise

Months ago I got an ADA Mini-M from Frank W. that I initially intended on using for an iwagumi scape. I began to DSM the tank, but quickly got bored with the iwagumi layout, and scrapped it. I decided to change it up and go with stones, branches, and a densely planted center focal point.

Anyway, onto the technical specs...

Equipment
  • ADA Mini-M
  • ADA Solar Mini
  • Aquaclear 20
  • Dual-stage regulator/5lb tank/in-tank diffuser

Fauna
  • 8 Celestial Pearl Danios
  • 4 Otocinclus
* Otos are only in here so they don't die with my shelldwellers.

Flora
  • Limnophila Repens 'mini'
  • Tonina Fluviatilis 'lotus blossom'
  • Rotala Indica 'true' (Ammania sp. bonsai)
  • Rotala Rotundifolia
  • Rotala Colorata
  • Rotala Mini Butterfly
  • Ludwigia sp. red
  • Lobelia Cardinalis 'dwarf'
  • Staurogyne Repens
  • Alternanthera Reineckii 'mini'
  • Eleocharis Belem
  • Hemianthus micranthemoides

All of these plants came from my 46g before I removed all of the plants from it. That's why there's such a variety - I slimmed down my collection to this one tank, and many of these were plants I just didn't want to get rid of, so I just shoved them in here. Figured they'd blend into one big bush in the middle.

I'm considering nixing the L. repens mini and L. sp red, because they're a bit out of scale in this tank.

Here are some photos, I'll get better ones later as I just did a water change and it's cloudy. My CPDs are a little shy as well, so I'll need to wait for them to get comfortable to get better photos - they like to hide in the back behind the plants.

FTS, immediately after a trim+replant:

Best photo I could get of the CPDs:

That looks great even in the initial phase.

Some updates:

- Removed Ludwigia sp. red and Limnophila sp 'mini' because their leaf sizes were disproportionate to the tank. Gonna stick with rotala and smaller leafed plants.
- Ordered some fissidens for the driftwood
- Ordered a new diffuser that will fit below the filter intake (current glass one is too tall)
- Moved HM to back right corner instead of up front. It grows too quick and is a little tall for the front of the rotala bush.

Quick, crooked photo pre-trim:

View from above. You can tell the rotala is at the surface.

Post-trim (and partial regulator shot.. co2 ran out and HP gauge was stuck so I didn't notice!)

I'll get some better photos soon, I promise.

Bump: I'm also considering getting 4-5 pygmy cories. Is that too much? Even being heavily planted and with weekly water changes? I'd like something to pick up after the CPDs, since they seem to miss a decent amount of the food.

They are also way too shy. They're almost always hiding behind the plants whenever I try to view them. It's tough to feed them cause they're hiding and don't notice the food!
