Automatic siphon (pump)

As promised in the equipment forum here is my DIY "Python" pump:

Parts list:

• one 1/2" FIP to F Hose
• one 1/2" FIP to M Hose
• one 1/2" MIP to M Hose
• one 1/2" x 1/2" FIP 1/4 turn full port ball valve
• one 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" FIP T
• three 1/2" hex nipples
• one HDPE nozzle from empty tube of silicone (ensure tip opening is approx. 3/16" in diameter)
• PTFE tape or pipe dope

Assembly issues:

The most imprtant part is the venturi created by the HDPE nozzle from an empty tube of silicone. The base must be trimmed to fit within the 1/2" FIP socket of the 1/2" FIP to F Hose fitting, pointing down and through the 1/2" hex nipple that connects it to the T. The tip opening should be no greater than 3/16" in diameter.

How much did all that cost you?

Not sure, parts are commonly available at any HD, Rona, or Lowes.

I already had some parts and just bought what I needed but have since expensed the receipt (I am a General Contractor) and am too lazy to find it.

If I had to guess probably about $20 to $25. You could substitute PVC close nipples, a PVC T, and a PVC full port 1/4 turn ball valve to save some $$, but the hose attachment parts are (I think) only available in brass.

Only reason I ask is because if you used the Python parts for just what you built, it would be about $10-$13 depending on where you shopped.

Not saying its not a nice little build, and if you have the parts handy, go for it!

To my knowledge we dont have Pythons here in Australia (well I've never seen one).. so this is a handy DIY.

Sure, it may be more expensive than using Python parts, but I bet this one is a lot harder to break.
