Hi all,

This is my 12 gallon low-tech setup.

It's an Eclipse 12, with the standard light. In addition, I have one of these LED strip lights from Ikea, with two strips on either side of the tank, which are on from 10am to 2pm on a timer.

Substrate is local sand and Flourite. Hardscape is a piece of kopari wood and some porous rock I got at an LFS.

Plants include two kinds of java fern which have been going for over a year, and some crypts that I just added in last few months. I aded what Petco said was dwarf hairgrass (so it's probably actually from someone's lawn) about three weeks ago, that's the thready-stuff you see around...chiefly because my MTS love to dig it up. Lastly, there's a snippet of what I'm told is "coontail" hanging out by the heater.

I've got a batch of red cherry shrimp, a bunch of MTS, and some red ramshorns that aren't as red as they used to be.

I does infrequently with Flourish and maybe every week or two with Excel.

Shrimp get algae pellets, banana, spinach, and sometimes a scrap of protein.

Oh! The tall, stem plants are supposed to be wisteria (Petco again), but they don't look like any wisteria I have seen. I thought they were emmersed and would transition to immersed, but so far, after three weeks, they're just taller.

There's also some regular aquarium gravel in there, which was kept behind the kopari wood barrier/level divider, but my malaysian trumpet snails cheerfully pushed a load of it over the edge of the barrier every night. Seriously thinking of getting an assassin snail just to trim their numbers down.

Looks good.
Some of the plants in the foreground may grow to big and cover up your DW. I would also suggest getting a background, amazing what a black background can change and its so cheap!

Looks like he might be using sunlight as a supplement. I don't know. I do.
