How many E-Series?

I am definitely going to be getting this light... that being said not sure how much I need?

Tank dimensions:
30"x36"x18" want to stay in the medium to high light range.

Would 1 36" be enough?

Or should I look at getting 2x 36" or maybe 2 x 24"?

Let me know your thoughts as I have no idea what kind of spread these lights actually produce!

Thank you for the link, gives good data but not so much on area coverage...

Given then lense angle, time to break out the calculator!

So the tank is 36" wide front to back and 30" long? Regardless that's really wide so you going to need at least 2 fixtures.

Yep...

Yea thats what I was afraid of lol. Probably go with two 24" and suspend them slightly

I would say the best spread would come from 2x 36" fixtures and put them front to back. That way each light has to cover 15" sideways vs 18.

That's actually a pretty good idea... though 36" would give me over hang on the front and back. I think the 2x24" would work going the 30" direction, only leaves 3" from the edge from and back. The 60 optics should take care of that last little bit. Now just gotta convince the wife why I need 2!

I'm also getting the e-Series. Gonna get mine from aquascape depot. Anyways, I plan to suspend mine over a 60p. I was told that an official "hanging kit" should be out in about 2 months. Suspending the fixture will also increase spread (also reduce PAR).

There's a graphic on PAR and spread (sort of?):

Its not really a spread diagram as it shows distance not horizontal spread. But if you know high your going to hang it, you just solve the missing distance using sin cos or tan.

For my instance I wpuld draw a triangle with a tall vertical side at 18" then a horizontal flat "bottom" at 90 angle and the top angle would be 30 then solve for the bottom side and multiple by 2 that will give me a horizontal coverage diatance. I just need to review my sin rules haha

Right, the bigger the angle the more you lose the farther away from the vertical.

If your goal is moderate lighting, then yes.

Usually one post per question is enough
