My fish just had a heart attack/seizure!

My rainbow fish is sick with what I think is columnaris. I was going to put him in a salt bath but as I was trying to catch him with a net he spazzed and starting twitching then he just stopped. (This was in the main tank not salt bath) He was in the bath for about 2 seconds so I quickly put him back into the tank and put stress coat in there. He seems to be okay now. Its been about 10 minutes. What happend?!?! How do I prevent it?
All water parameters are fine and everything is okay. I plant to treat tank with antibiotics soon.

treat the whole tank asap. if its columnaris you are running out of time.
if you cant get your hands on needed antibiotics(erythromicyn will not work) go to LFS NOW and get methylen blue based cure

I have a heavily planted tank. I cannot use methylen blue with the plants. Any other suggestions? I have never delt with this before. Thanks.

Told you in your other post. Kanamyacin medicated food and api furan 2. If You had ordered yesterday from someplace close to you they would have been here tomorrow. Now, you will need to overnight them or wait until Monday which will prob be too late.
Try dropping temp to 75 to slow the bacteria reproduction and possibly tetracycline but the furan 2 is better and won't wipe out your filter.
Good luck.

I would not use methylene blue except in a separate dip. It says directly on my bottle of kordon methylene blue it interferes with plant growth and will destroy the biological filter. These fish do not need the additional stress of ammonia or nitrite levels as the disease is already attacking the gills as mentioned in a previous post by op. A separate bath in a qt tank, yes, in main tank I think would be a absolute death sentence for these fish. That's my opinion.
