German blue ram sexing

I just bought some of these awesome fish. They told me it was male and female but I'm not so sure, so I'd like to get your opinion on it.

I see pink in both tummies meaning you have two girls.

I was hoping for a male and a female, should I take one back and get a male or would two females work better with my celestial pearl danios? I'm slightly worried about aggression, since I've read some GBRs can be aggressive.

Here are a few photos I found online a while back when I was trying to sex my GBRs.

Hope this helps.

Can't say for sure but two females look right. The big thing to look at is the pink belly. GBR will always have a pink belly. That is the only sure way. In most cases the finnage can separate a male and female but not all of them look so different. At this point you could look at the blue spangling on the black dot but this is much more accurate on "wild type Rams" and as they've been bred out has become much less reliable. Easiest way is to look for the pink belly and if you can't tell by that, then look at the other little signs to make your determination.

Even when looking at the finnage, there are a lot of long-fins coming out nowadays and that seems to be fairly popular for whatever reason so lately I've seen females with very long dorsal fins that may be difficult to distinguish between male and female.

I see a male and a female. What I've come to find is that looking at the anal fin is the best way to sex them as the other traits tend to be muddled and/or difficult to discern.

In the males, the anal fin will meet and/or extend past the joint of the body and tail/caudal fin. In the females the anal fin will not extend past that spot and/or will just barely reach the "joint" of body and tail/caudal.

So, it looks to me that pictures 1,3 and 4 are the male; and in photo 2 the female is on top and the male on the bottom. But, its difficult to tell from the photos. As they grow the male should get larger than the female and the females pink belly should get much more noticeable. I've seen some males that sometimes look like their belly is pink; but its never as drastic as the females.
