Well, my check valve failed and my mixture spilled into my tank. I don't think it was much but its has clouded up the water.
I did a 25% water change last night after I saw it. This morning (even with the CO2 removed completely) the tank was cloudier then before. So, I did another 25% change this morning. How screwed am I? I've got 5 dwarf puffers in there 'd hate to lose!! Thanks. |

You need to change more water man. More like 50% for the next few days to completely take out the solution. How big is the tank and the CO2 bottle? I don't think the check valve would stop the solution from going into the tank. It protects the other end (tank to bottle). Where did you connect the CO2 output to?

Tank is 10 gallon. Bottle was a 2 liter soda bottle. Either the cat or I knocked it over at some point.
CO2 was going into the uptake on my Pequin mini |

Yeah, that thing acts exactly like real soda when you knock it over. It will create pressure and burst to the top. That's why I use gas seperator. I experimented knocking over the bottle and the solution filled up the gas seperator.
I had some solution went in to my tank before but not much. I change the water 3 days in a row. Also ran carbon media in my filter. I'm not sure though whether the carbon could absorb and alcohol and contaminants from the solution. I just used it anyway. No dead fish |

Yeah, I put a new filter in this morning. It has the charcoal built in.
I'm going to need to rethink the setup in case that happens again. Although I may secure the bottle so that it doesn't have a chance to fall over. |

I think I am royally frelled!! I came home from work and its worse then ever! I don't have the CO2 connected! The yeast must be multiplying!!
I just did a 50% change and still no good. I put 2 pairs of panty hose over the outflow try and filter out the yeast. Doesn't look like its working, So far I've only lost a couple of my new shrimp but I fear it may get worse! |

Round up your fish into a large container temporarily, and then do a 100% water change in the tank. Scoop out a corner of the gravel so that the water level goes all the way down to the bottom glass, and refill. Then replace the fish into the tank.

Ha that is correct. They are multiplying. I had a very minor siphoning of the yeast solution in my tank, no more than a teaspoon, and in a week it bloomed into a huge mess. I agree with tula, 100% water change is about the most practical solution now. BTW, a check valve only protects from water going into your bottles, not the other way.

Forgot to mention: Don't forget to unplug your heaters prior to dropping the water line below the level of the heating elements, then allow them about 15 minutes to re-equilibrate after refilling the tank, before plugging them in. Clean out your filters in dechlorinated water, too.

this happened to me earlier this week. i don't have any control valves or anything, the mix was too much and "grew" into the hose.
it was crazy. i changed at least 50% of my water and things calmed down. now, though i need to remake the mix... off to find the recipe |
