I am getting ready to build a stand for my 55 gallon tank. Most stands are around 28. I am interested in your thoughts about tank height? Working backwards is it better to measure the top of the tank which is basically your viewing level and build the stand accordingly?

That's what I did... I wanted to look straight at the center of the tank when sitting comfortably in my chair. The tank is 23" tall, so it came out to 30.5" for the stand.

I like them lower because I'm short and don't like standing on a chair to do stuff. (That's one reason my new tank is sitting on the floor, but that's not for everyone!)

Make sure there's room beneath it for your equipment to stand up though. Obvious, but easily forgotten.

I've noticed that discus prefer to be higher up. They seem to get scared more easily when they are lower down. I don't know if that is a consideration though.

While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, John and his friend Sally both spotted a dalmatian inside of a truck with sirens. The animal with John and Sally is a _ _ _?
