10 gal planted.

Just purchased a finnex planted plus and the regular finnex led for my 10 gallon tank. Have Amazon Swords, Anubias, and soon to have dwarf baby tears. Was curious if this was overkill or a good set up for these plants! Also using seachem flourish tabs put in place! Especially near the Amazon swords. As I wait for my final shipment, I was wondering if there was anything else I needed!

Let me know what you guys think!

How long should I leave my lights on for this set up? Don't want to nuke the poor plants!

Thanks.

Is your intent a high light co2 tank?

No co2. I may use the regular Finnex led elsewhere and just keep the Planted+ on it. Just gravel, Seachem flourish tabs, and proper lighting! Thoughts?

How could I neutralize that? Planted plus says it's medium lighting at best. Maybe run lights 5-6 hours a day besides 8?

i think u will need co2, but lets have the pros tell us... im on the same boat as u, with the same 20" planted plus light and a 10g.... my story, i had it hooked up for a month or so but started getting black beard algae, and green spot algae so i took the light off but i also had diy co2 and ferts(ei dose).. now i have a 10w ebay flood light on it which is super dim.. i really want to put the finnex light back on, it just looks super sexy but im scared of black beard algae

Not a fan of co2. Especially in medium tech tanks. Lots of research says I can just decrease length of time with the light and that should be fine. I hope. Not going to start the co2 game until larger projects.

Exactly. I didn't want this 10 gallon to turn into the death start with equipment, fertz and the whole 9 yards. Was hoping the planted plus+ and maybe the led for a couple of hours on the amazon swords and baby dwarf tears would be adequate. Also thinking about getting a couple algae eaters to conduct maintenance. I'll do water changes every 5 days as well to keep the bio waste low.

That's a lot I light over a 10. If you wish to avoid algae and use just the planted+ I would use gray fiberglass window screen to cut the light or raise it high. They way your running now your asking for an algae farm.
I run a 20long with a planted+ over glass, window screen, 8 hrs a day split in half. No algae, good growth. I do have an amazon in there that I often cut back so that it does not grow out.

I see what you're saying. Is there a way since I have both lights. I can run the planted plus for 4-5 hours and then the led for a couple!? That way I can get that red light in there and then take some of that heat off? Is there a good way to balance that? I can take off the LED standard and just run the planted plus for the 6-8 hours I suppose. Never thought about covering the light or tank. How would you suggest that, I love the open tank look though! Hmmmm, thoughts?

Cancelled my order of the baby tears. So the Amazon Swords will be my most needy plants for light. Would like to stay Medium tech. Still think just the Planted plus is too much for a ten gallon?

It may be. I guess it may put you in the higher end of medium, but just a guess. Either raise the light or fabricate something that keeps a screen under the light. The sword will do fine under med light so don't fret about it. You can manage med light without co2, but it can be a challenge. At least more so than a low light tank.

Appreciate your help! Will look into raising the light or finding a way to filter the light. Thanks!
