Rare Plants: Seattle 3/11/08 7:30 pm

Hi All:

Our Greater Seattle Aquarium Scocity (GSAS) speaker for March, Luis Navarro, will be talking on planted tanks and is bringing a large box of donated plants (Plant Auction II) to be auctioned at the end of his talk. He is promising lots of very rare plants that are likely first for Washington. Please spread the word and invite your friends!

"Guess what was waiting in a big box for me when I got home this afternoon?

Two boxes of aquatic plants by way of our speaker for next Tuesday, Luis Navarro, that's what!

One box is a large donation from Aquarium Design Group (www.aquariumdesigngroup.com), one of the country's best pro aquascaping companies based in Houston. They're Florida Aquatic Nurseries, and just peeking into the box, I see lots of potted Kleiner Bar swords, some Telanthera species (Alternanthera), and broad-leaf Ludwigia. There's also some large bags of stem plants that I can't yet ID.

The other box comes from Luis himself, and has some neat rare stuff.
Pogostemon stellata (the plant formerly known as Eusteralis stellata), Rotala nanjenshan, Marsilea minuta, Hygrophila spp. Porto Velho "rare", Ludwigia senegalensis Africa "rare", and a mystery moss cited by Takashi Amano in his 2004 AGA presentation.

I'd better get them in water and under lights. These will all most likely be auctioned after Luis' presentation on Tuesday night. One more reason to be there!
