I'm on the fence again now LOL. with shipping for 2 30" is $64 which is still cheap in LED lighting but the beamswork unit is $50 shipped and that has 3 rows of 6500k (granted .2w LED)... From specs I've gathered on some sites these aquatic life units are 10,000k for the whites. I don't know if I prefer the 10k or not how different it will look but the beamswork is still more spread light. I don't need that much penetration for a 20 long with just mostly ground covering plants.

Beamswork is tried and true in my house already. Down side to BW is that the 30" stock is gone in an instant both on 3bay and aquatraders and new shipments take months. I wish there was more details about the aquatic life...Going to think on this some more.

Looks like they are throwing their profit margin into the shipping..
Shipping should be 1/2 that..

AND for $40 more you can get one (only 24") w/ a 3 channel ramp timer..???? Yea.. I'd rule it out on principal...
Not exactly fw centric..

So the bottom line is like $114
fro 2=30" fixtures..

That is a different product. It's $64 for two of the single strip 30" fixtures shipped. The shipping isn't unreasonable, just that with the BeamsWork it's included. My wife doesn't like the CFL domes and the BW 30's won't be available again until the middle of summer.

Quote:
(21) 0.5W White, (10) 0.5W Red, (11) 0.5W Blue
} for a total of say 24 W

$51.98 + $64 = $115.98 24W total of just sit there LED's..

VS

$141.49 (free shipping) 24" 30W programmable sunset/sunrise timers and moonlight cloud effect...

you lose nothing but width which it sadly doesn't cover 30" w/ the bracket..

$25 difference...

http://www.thatpetplace.com/aquaticl...FckWMgodGD4AtQ

$122.38 w/ free shipping.............$6 difference between the 2 products.. IF the 24" fit a 30" top "neatly" it would be kind of a no brainer..

Beamswork are available now in the US ... on fleabay. There are a lot of models though (more "lomens" less LED's... 380856948684 )..:
161241406199
3rd Gen 30" - 34" Aquarium Double Hi Lumen LED Light Lunar Bright 2624LM NEW
$63.95 plus free shipping..

From AquaticLife support:

"We currently do not have any PAR data on our .5W LED’s. After connecting with our product developer the color temperature of our .5W freshwater LED’s are 6K."

I should have the pair of 30" units by Friday. I've also asked if the pricing on their website is temporary or not. I would consider throwing one of these on my 40 between my other two fixtures to get a little more red into the spectrum.

Edit/Add: "The pricing on our website will be available until we are out of stock. The .5W LED’s are being discontinued. However, we can still service them and honor the 1 year warranty that is associated with the light fixture."

Are they "Expendable" or "Expandable?"

LOL I saw the spelling error the other day but didn't comment on it. It is supposed to be "expandable". These are single row LED fixtures that appear to attach to each other and use end caps to aid in cable management. I'll take some pictures and write an article on my website this weekend most likely.

Well, not impressed with these lights. Two of them is NOT enough for a 20long, probably need closer to 4. What kills it for me is the blue LED's, even with just a few it throws the color way off for me. My 3 CFL's went back within an hour of trying let myself really adjust to the new look but couldn't do it.

Time to see about returning or ebay'n these things. I will say it really did make my neon's pop lol.
