Tips on carpeting staurogynes repens

I planted these repens on sat in my tank I would like them to carpet. When I got them they were brownish now turning into a nice green color

My question is, I heard I should wait to trim it to level desired until it fills out the area I want to carpet is this true? Any tips on growing this plant would be awesome!

Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, John and his friend Sally both spotted a dalmatian inside of a truck with sirens. The animal with John and Sally is a _ _ _?
