Hey guys,

My tank is quite new still but I'm starting to get traces of hair algae, namely the dark green type on the gravel and some plant leaves.

I've done some tests and my parameters are

125ltr - actually ~90ltr
ph - 7 - is this too high?
PO4 - 0.5ppm
NO3 - 5ppm

The problem is my tapwater is full of phosphates, it maxes out a test kit within seconds, so I was thinking of removing it with either RO or a API filter or some sort. I do a 30% weekly water change you see, but I'm worried that all I'm do is introducing fresh phosphate into the tank. I know you need phosphate but I assume it's better to have a deficiency and does it upto the required level rather than have it in abundance?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Its dark green hair algae, quite stringy, I've seen it called 'beard' algae and red algae before, apparently if you put it in meths it goes red? It's not slimy though, it's like cotton almost, and you just pick it off and roll it into a ball.
