Hi whiteblaze,

I am currently running an Aquaclear 20 on my 10 gallon and it works great. No carbon, just two sponges (pick up an extra when you buy the filter).

10 gallon, low tech, no CO2, 2X10 watt CFL - PAR@25, ferts and Excel

This is really up for debate. There probably is no best per se; more like what works for your situation. What's your price range, aesthetic requirements, maintenance expectations?

I'm really liking sponge filters.

Hang on back, whatever size of Aquaclear will work. They just don't stop.

Most important question is: what's the bioload?

I'm using AC50s on my future 11.4 gallon tanks.

Soon I'm putting my 2g together with an AC20.

I use an AC 30 on this 10 gal tank:

(disregard the first pic which is a 40 gal discus grow-out tank)

FX5!

Just kidding, aquaclear 30 is nice, I have a 20 on a 3 gallon ( baffled with plants to slow it down)

I like canisters best, hidden in the stand and you can carry them to sink/ tub/ hose outside for cleaning.

I love my SunSun 603b Canister on my 5g.. Its silent, easy to clean and hardly noticeable on such a small tank.. Also goes along time w/out needing a cleaning; its been about 2 months since my last cleaning and there's no noticeable reduction in flow.

IIRC was about $40 shipped w/pump, inflow & outflow pipes, tubing and sponges.

Petco sells a marinetime penguin 100 with a bio wheel that is pretty cheap. That's what I use it's around 40 bucks. It has good flow for being so small
