What type of shrimp is this?

This is the only shrimp I have of this species does anyone recognize this & have the scientific name for it?

I've checked the galleries & couldn't find one that matched his patterns.

Note: All 4 photos are the same shrimp.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a really dull red cherry, almost closer to wild color

Yeah I agree with trigger has the makings of a wild/low grade male cherry.

The few white patches on the head plus the hint of the stripes on the back point to Caridina Sulawesi: http://www.petshrimp.com/csulawesi.php

Body shape looks like Caridina to me too. I'd guess some kind of hybrid between different Caridina species?

Thanks for the replies, if anyone has any idea. There's at least 100 of them that sold. Definitely not a neo.

I only chose 1 shrimp because the ones left were all males. He was the feistiest of what remained.

I've flipped through all the shrimp sites in
  • German
  • French
  • Polish
  • Russian

Nothing seems to match up.

I'll take some better pictures when he runs by or when he shows up on the feeding stage later this evening.

Amusing to watch, from ABOVE those white spots look like a pair of eyes & sort of resembles a miniature spiny lobster.

My LFS is selling those... I think it's just what you get when you let any of the tiny shrimp species breed without culling. As for species, I have no idea.
Maybe wild shrimp?

Did you see the last picture on the link I provided earlier? there is a shrimp on the right side that has couple white dots on the head similar to your shrimp.
Where did you get your shrimp from?

Default Checked the link but didn't notice it at first glance

There's 13 photos on that link to Mustafa's site. Also the picture where a couple shrimps seemed a bit similar was literally a GANG of shrimp.

That's why I only chose one, shrimp that lack color don't hold my attention well. Since he's solo, I don't see him that often.
  • Guess it's some sort of Sulawesi shrimp. I wouldn't consider him a inbred cull, I like those little 2 white dots & the single patch of black behind it.

Got the little fella from a place that gets brand new stock each week that doesn't sell to the general public.

  • B132 - how much do they usually sell for at your LFS? What do they label them as? I haven't seen any at the shops that I've visited.

Thanks for the link. Like Mustafa mentioned, colorless ones can still shoot out a multitude of colors. The blue Windex colored ones are interesting. Too bad they didn't have any of those when I chose mine.

When people mention Sulawesi shrimp I always think of the "white gloved' cardinals ones.

Last night, I came across someone in the US is offering US bred ones for $18 each.
