Hi 8)

I am injecting around 2 healthy teaspoons of KN03 a day in my tank to try to maintain an average of 10ppm N03.

Seems like alot to me for a 46gal

Was just curious about the rest of you heavy planted guys?

I try to keep my levels between 5-10. I don't inject daily however. Maybe every two days.

That's adding 40 ppm a day.

Does not sound right to me. Sure it's pure KNO3? Did you do the bucket test to make sure it is truly KNO3, and did you test the test kit?

Yes and yes, all is well with the bucket test and the test kit is good, I also have an AP N03 test kit that is good, both the redsea and AP kits readings are very simular..

it is Spectracide Stump Remover, ingredients are Potassium Nitrate.

Guess I will order some from greg watson and see if I get same results,

The plants are very healthy with very little algae at all, I rarely have to scrape the glass, it even stays clean, pearling is good, although im not a fan of alot of pearling, and my water stays very clear. I even have to add fleet (phosphates) almost daily, and definatly every other day.

Surely my plants aren't eating that much but guess they are. hmmm

Funny, I use Spectracide too. I use about half a teaspoon twice a week, in my 100 gal tank, to keep it around 5 ppm.

Those numbers sound really really wrong. To use that much KNO3 you would have to be taking literally pounds of plant material out of the tank every day due to growth.

Yeah, if it's pure KNO3 in that stuff, jeez.

I only add about 1/2 teaspoon every 2-3 days to keep my NO3 in the upper teens, but not over 20ppm, in a 75gallon.

I too am using Spectracide. 1/2 tsp 3x week per Tom Barr's dosing recommendation on KNO3 (not Spectracide specifically). I was struggling to keep my NO3 near 5ppm. It was closer to 2ppm.

However, I just sent out about 3 lbs of stem plants (weight includes water, baggies, and boxes as measured by USPS scale). Since taking out the plants last week, I finally got a decent measurement of 5ppm the day after dosing. After dosing 1/2 tsp of Spectracide yesterday (about 8ppm for my estimated 60g of water) I was able to get a reading of 10ppm this am.

How many plants do you have in there? I know mine looked like a jungle before I removed the previous 3 months of growth. I did a lot of pruning and replanting obviously

then it sounds like Spectracide must be slightly diluted, as 1/2tsp of powdered KNO3 keeps me at 20ppm all week, despite my sunset hygro 'bush'.

I am dosing 1/2 tsp dry every 3 days in my 77 and it is only just planted about 20 days - plants growing well. I am using KNO3 as it comes from Hydroponics.com.

After 3 days my Nitrate tests at approx zero (0) PPM after 3 days and soon after I dose they read somewhere between 5 and 10 ppm (Stupid me had bought a Hagen Nitrate test kit before checking the forums - next one will be a RedSea)

I dose and calculate based on 70 gallons as I have 7 bags of Flourite in the tank and Seachem suggested I use approx 1 gallon displacement for each 7kg bag of Flourite in my calculations.
