Aqueon Evolve 2 - Betta

I broke all of my own rules yesterday ...

and bought an aqueon evolve 2 and a betta!

(my petco is sh*tty and the tank was totally used. No cover and dirty. can I go complain and ask for a refund without the tank, since I canít transport a full tank lol)

Heís beautiful! And day two no issues. This is my THIRD instant cycle success using Tetra Safe Start. I canít believe it. I was prepared for the stress but I donít think I will have it. I donít recommend solely relying on the product, but I do recommend having it on hand in case of emergencies or other needs.

Now, I wonít be putting a FTS until Iím satisfied.

BUT here is Winter

here is my filter mod. (this SIGNIFICANTLY decreased the flow)

I took fluval filter sponge, folded in half around the output and secured with thread.

A question:
I hate how much dead space this filter has, all because of the "media basket" Right now, I utilized that to put as much ceramic biomedia as I could, but ideally I want to get rid of the basket and make use of the space. How difficult would this be? It seems very.

Thanks! FTS soon with more details

I would put a hidey hole in there. Like a pot or a piece of pvc pipe.

I had the PCV on the floor for a while and he didn't really use it. I also had the floating betta log in there too, but it look up way to much space. I chose swimming room over it. This is my challenge for a small tank. Optimizing swimming room while adding things.

Any other ideas?
