I have done this before and actually used high strength velcro. I use it alot to run things and to hold things in place behind my aquarium, its cheap at Lowes and allows you to move things around easily. I have my powerstrips mounted underneath a shelf and they been there over a year and havent fell.

I bought the 16' 6500k led water proof led light strips from ebay and cut them into shorter strips and set them side by side glued to aluminum and soldered them together making a nice high power cheap led light.
