38G planted tank (rearranged some of the plants, new pics 12/02/08))

Just started this tank and been running for two weeks as of tomorrow. You may call me a beginner and will take all comments and criticisms bad or good. What have is 36x12x18 38G tank equipped with 96W 6700K Coralife and a Emperor 280. I'm sorry for the pics as i live in a condo and with lot of windows so glare are all over. And taking these pics as i go on. These pics shows the hardscapes as i put them in. I put some gravel as i am on a budget and i can't afford two bags of Flourite.

Put water leveled to hardscape. Clipped some of the anubias (various types) from my previous 29G tank and started putting them in between the rocks.

While i was putting the Anubias' i pre-washed my Flourite and left it on the bucket full of water hoping it don't cloud the tank. And here's what happened.

not completely done planting more Anubias so decided to drained it a bit as it is so hard to see where you're planting.

And as i get done for the day, i thought i start filling up the tank to the trim so i can run my filter and ease up on the water blurring.

On the next day, drained it again and started putting more plants and a white Pool Filter Sand. A driftwood with windelov on it. Don't ask me the names of the rest of the plants, as i don't remember them. I lost the paper that i have their names on. Some crypts on there, some type of small grass, and some red sword that was melting on my 29G.

I am new to planted tanks as well, but it seems like you have a lot of light (96 watts plus the light coming in all of those windows). Do you have plans to run co2 or fertilize?

Also, Im not really a fan of the background. I like a more subdued background, and yours is stealing my attention from the plants.

McgJosh, I used the blue background as i have a Zebra Angels, i tried black and the fishes went missing. That's why i decided using blue. I plan on putting more stem plants on both ends, and co2 is on the works as well, just don't want to use one of those pressurized one as of yet(too scared). I'm also putting some Flourish exel in there every other day when i remember.

Can someone please tell me what must i do to stop some of these plants from melting.

I like the look. I have rocks like that, and am re-doing a tank, and your tank gives me ideas.

My original concept was these huge square boulders, with hairgrass growing all around, to simulate a savanna; however, it evolved into something completely different than that after the plants grew in.

I like you plants. good choice, good use of space. makes me think of apistos setting up house.

you'll soon start budgeting more for the aquarium. lol
