This must be the ideal sword plant for a not-so-big tank. Low light, low ferts, just keeps growing and looking good! Now is it Echinodorus osiris, or Echinodorus barthii, or E osiris barthii... dunno.

"Adventitious shoots and rhizomes"
Don't know what triggers it though. I remember someone had a lot of babies in his tank. On the other hand, I hope it stays vegetative like it is...

Beautiful plant. When you say it stays kinda small, how big is that? ..diameter and height of a mature plant?

In my tank, the diameter is about 8 inches, the height around 4 inches. Under different conditions (more/less light, ferts and CO2) they might "behave" totally different.

Wow! Gorgeous, wasser! I got a baby compacta sword from Ann (anonapersona) and it's growing very similarly - low and wide. Very pretty - but not quite the color of your specimen! Nice!

It's nice and compact under poor-conditions. 4 or 5 inches leaves. Slow growth.
With CO2 and lotsa waters changes, the leaves can grow fast: 1 or 2 a week with 12- 14 inch leaves. So you cut the leaves off, and after cutting dozens of leaves, the base starts to look like a palm-tree... I'll attach a photo in a couple weeks. In 2 years, I've yet to see a runner or plantlet. |

very nice looking sword that, I recienty took a rhizome cutting from one of these that is in a friends tank (the fool let me prune it :P ) the cutting put out new growth in about 2-3 weeks and now has about 6 leaves, hopefully it'll grow up to be like yours.
