Hey all! as some of you know, i am a nano man keeping tanks under 20 gallons.. Until now. i will be getting a 40 gallon breeder tank and am concerned on what i should get for it? (of course the tank will be planted)
My plans for the tank was the following
Lighting: 48" T5 Quad High Output Light Fixture 6500K
Substrate: Black Flourite
Filter: Fluval 306? (maybe)
Co2: probably in the future
Heating: 100W? (was never good with heaters)
Stocking: 2 angels, 13-19 tetras (don't know what species yet) and 8 otto cats.
only reason I don't have them now is that I'd rather not just keep 5 of them in a 10 and at the price I find them for, its a lot of $ to get the 10 or so I'd want in a 75
I've never done either really, but I tend to like doing dirt if I do sand. You can probably do straight sand but I'd put in root tabs if you were going that route.
m considering doing rainbows now since the fish i would want with the angels would nip their fins.. Thanks for all that substrate info! will be getting black diamond sand hopefully the 26th or 27th, so i will keep you all posted
If i get $300 or more today, i will be getting the 40 gallon. if i get $250 or less, i will use that money to pimp out my current 20 gallon long. (PRAY FOR $300 OR MORE...)
Did i read correctly that you are running a quad t5ho fixture? If so I would be careful with your light period because you will run into algae problems with that much light in such a shallow tank. However, your pictures look like a dual fixture which would be alright.
As you can see, the dw has a pit in the middle, which I plan on filling with substrate and having apontegon crispus "red" like natures chaos, hope that works out as it will bring beautiful color to the 40 breeder.
