brown crust on plant

I don't know what kind of grass/plant this is, but can someone tell me what the brown crust is that's on it. Also the name as well. It's about 4" tall and the leaves have a grain to them. The plant is about 2 weeks in the tank.

I think it came that way from the LFS and as I'm new to this didn't really check at the time.

I don't think it's just brown algae, as it seems like it has an "edge to it" and is raised. Which is why I called it a crust.

Thanks,
iso

I can't really tell from the picture, but I think it's BBA or Black Beard Algae.

Thanks. I put the tank in a small container and removed it from the tank. It reminds me of like hard water, but is brown/black in color.

Does it wipe off easy? It could be diatoms? They are common in newly established tanks. Also, if you find that its only on that plant, maybe it isn't meant to be underwater? I'm new to the hobby as well and can't I'd either the plant or the problem but that's what I would think if it were mine.

Those are diatoms imo. And you should get that plant out of your tank, it looks like a terrestrial plant called mondo or kyoto grass.
