Question

Hair Algae

New to the forum and I am currently working with my first planted tank. My current set-up includes

20gL, Eheim 60g filter, DIY 2-Liter CO2 with glass diffuser, flora-max substrate

two ottos, 6 cardinals, and 6 silver-tip tetra (I feed them once a day, a large pinch, should I cut this back to once every other day?)

an assortment of plants

I plan on dosing dry ferts within the next month. I also purchased Flourish Excel as I've been told it can ride algae from a tank with 2x the recommended dosing.

There seems to be a number of ways to go about treating for hair algae and I'm timid on how to do so. My current attack plan involves me turning off the filter, letting it stand for 15 minutes, placing 4ml of Excel into the tank and then doing a 1/3 water change the next day. The hair algae seems to have spread over a number of plants, so I'm not sure the syringe dosing would do justice. I can post a picture later today if it's of any benefit to determining the best approach to ridding this hair algae.

I understand the long term issue with algae stems from lack of nutrients, hints why I want to do the EI dosing within a month. Looking for any constructive feedback

The hair algae is mainly on the Rotala and moving onto the Carolina

What kind of plants and exactly how many do you have? Also, What kind of a light do you have, and what is your photoperiod?
