Emmersed plants for paludarium

Hello,

My current project is a paludarium that will have what amounts to approx. 40 gallons of water, 12" deep. I am looking for some plants that can grow from the bottom and become have an emmersed portion. I know that some anubia and swords will do this, but what about stem plants, etc.?

Being a newbie, I can't really advise you on many plants except hygrohilas. Those grow all the way out of the water for me in my aquariums. Specifically, water sprite and hygrophila angustifolia.

Besides regular aquarium plants, you might want to also look into bog plants, aka "marginals" in the ponding world. These commonly grow up and out of the water. I don't know which if any would have much interesting foliage under the water line, though some of them have very pleasing foliage above the water.

Almost all stem plants will show emersed growth. A few notable exceptions like Cabomba, Egeria, Ceratophyllum, and Potamageton come to mind. Even those might put out flower stalks or produce floating leaves.
