Good amp for <=$100?

I'm looking to upgrade my amp from a Squier SP-10, which cannot handle what I want from it. I'm looking for a good one that I can but for at or less than $100 new, not on sale. It has to be small, but not too small, because I don't have much room.

Thanks!

What kind of music do you mainly play. That would really determine your selection along with if your going to use effects with it, play with others or just jam with headphones on.

The Line 6 Spider IV 15w is right @ $100, they're not bad for what they are, various types of distortion & effects, plus its a small amp.

Well, I won't be preforming on stage or anything.

Like Michael asked, what do you want out of the amp as far as tone goes? What's the rest of your rig? Might be able to get by with that amp with a pickup change on your guitar, or maybe, the right pedal.

In another direction, if you don't have a lot of room, or aren't playing out, maybe you don't need an amp and can get by with one of the computer based rigs. Lots of room for tweaking, and you'll never piss off the wife or neighbors.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of playing an electric guitar?

To piss people off

There are some smaller Marshall amps like this one out there that sound pretty good. Settings are pretty basic though but they're good for practicing. There's one like that at my school that I like and I've played a few similar models at various stores. Even works for gigging at a small venue.

I can vouch for the Marshall brand amps. They sound a lot better than some other more expensive amps on the market. I believe the one i owned was a Marshall MG80. Not sure, but it was a very smaaalll model. It's definitely compact, but can get loud if wanted and has a good crunch on distortion.

I'd rather make music than amends.

I agree, pup changes make a huge difference but with out quality amp/interface it'd be pointless.

There are great PC interfaces out there, I use an Axe FX Ultra into a Mackie thump powered wedge that can also be used for direct home recording or sent into the soundboard at a venue. Only thing is my exact setup isn't .....ummmm....cheap. Music is my first true hobby/love.

If you could extend your budget up to say the 200ish range you could look into a Line 6 POD X3 or one of their HD series. Both of those are effects processors & recording interfaces for your PC. Both sound pretty good and will provide a way better sound than any amp in that price range.

With "most" gear you get what you pay for. All gear and guitars are playable but you pay for the quality and ease of playability.

I've been playing music for about 20yrs and have been through way more gear than anyone should so if you have any specific questions on gear, effects, guitars/pickups, guitar setups (action, intonation, ect..) feel free to PM me.

A good majority of rock bands make music that pisses people off. Without pissing people off it wouldn't be rock n roll now would it.

Rush Limbaugh pisses people off too. No need to turn him up to 11, now is there?

And just because everyone from Buddy Holly to The Stooges to Kings of Leon have pissed off various people for different reasons doesn't justify me invading my wife's or my neighbors' sonic space with my playing. There is a place and time for loud guitars, and my spare bedroom at most hours is not the place. When I used to play out, yes, but now, no.

So enough of our thread hijacking, back to the critical question:

That Guy, what tones are you looking to create?
Or do you want to make ua hua proud and just make it loud?
