You have to watch the tap water up here very closely TDS typically between 325 and 400 depending on the day

As a note as well dont buy shrimp at the lfs here the markup on them is insane 3-5 bucks for a cherry shrimp
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that...the LFS here is $3.99/RCS, which is ridiculous...must be a FL thing.

Major wholesalers charge up to $1.50 per cherry shrimp, so $3.99 is really quite a modest markup. The key to being a great store is either farming yourself or cutting out the middleman and buying your shrimp direct.

I've seen that guy on Craigslist before. I charge $3 for my home-grown PFRs (full reds, not cherry grade) and I'm not versed on this guy's quality, but for cherry grade, it's good we have someone with cheap, plentiful cherries. I personally am working on different colors, so seeing cherries is no longer the bees knees like it was when I started out

I still love my for although I have about fifteen crs that I love watching.

Thankfully my pfr have started breeding well so I should be able to rehouse some in spring

If you don't need the ceramic bottom get in touch with H4N, He has mesh precut to whatever size you want and it works great to attach moss to with a little bit of cotton thread.

I would look into neos for your first shrimp (such as cherries, PFR, etc) they seem to be better in diverse water conditions. They were doing alright with de-chlor tap water but breeding for me really took off about a year after I got them and within a month of switching over to RODI remin water. They were breeding in the tap water but weren't as prolific as they are now for me. Try to get your shrimp from someone locally and not the LFS as the markup on them is INSANE! Cherries for $4 vs getting 20 for 20 on here is a big difference especially when you're just starting out and running the risk of losing a few while you learn more.

That's a great start! How long has the tank been up and running? I usually like to wait a month after the tank is cycled to make sure I have stable params before adding shrimp.
