I currently have 2 power glo light strips over my 80 gallon. would you consider it a low, medium or other category lighting? I want to know so I can figure out what kind of plants I will be able to keep. thanks for helping out a plant noob.

So I am assuming 4' tubes... that's a total of 80 watts. Thay say at least 2 watts per gallon, but you can be less and have slow growing plants such as Java Fern, which do fine in low light.

80W or less over an 80 gal tank I would classify as insufficient. You might be able to keep certain plants alive, but they won't show much growth.

Go to www.ahsupply.com and take a look at their kits.

I agree with rex.

Go for the retro kit. It's cheap easy and works very well.
