Engineering challenge. Spare & cracked tank suggestions

I have a couple of empty ten gallon tanks laying around ("join the club", right?) and i wonder - do any of you have suggestions of very low maintenance uses outside of storing substrate? Shrimp? Maybe i don't have the time to do anything with them... I'm looking for something i can ignore completely for a week. Maybe growing some emersed plants is about it. Suggestions?

I was drying substrate in a 20 g long with a hair dryer... and would you believe it cracked? No kidding... Right across the bottom, almost to the seal. Suggestions for use that don't include tearing it apart? DSM in that might be an option, if i set it at an angle. I spent half a day tearing apart a few tanks to cut for tops one time, and it was not as productive as i would have liked.

I have an idea for an automatic microworm feeder, where the worms simply crawl into the water, but I'm having a hard time perfecting it and choosing the right materials. Is anybody up to the challenge of putting it together if i provide rough specs and requirements?

Same goes for an automatic wingless fruit fly feeder that allows them to singly escape out of the culture and onto the top of the water for hungry cichlids waiting below. I admit, i haven't done much to bring this idea to life- my fish wouldn't be very interested- but i imagine you could hot glue an airline tubing into a hole in a culture cup and put the other end just above the water. Increase or decrease the flies being fed by changing the diameter and location of the hole and tubing.

Has anybody seen either of these?

I like the emersed plants idea. You could always build a rack for them all and set up a breeding system

You could always just set up a sweet terrarium.

Sure, why not? I'd like to see a sketch of what you're thinking of, I can't really picture this one by the description.

I say go for it, it's definitely the most interesting sounding idea (IMO). If it works I'll build one out of this torn up 10G I have if that's any incentive for you to do it!

It's not like anyone has done it before, you might as well be the first and get all the fame and fortune. Only a couple of potential issues I see, how will the culture get fed, and how will you get rid of the dead individuals? It might start to stink if the culture were to go nuclear
