They have mopani, cork, and what appears to be malaysian at one store. Other stores carry blasted manzanita branches. I haven't seen petrified wood though.

Sorry, hope you don't mind a few side questions about the flower district. Are the driftwood any cheaper than the LFS? Do they also usually have rocks etc.?

It's cheaper than eBay or other website.

They have some nice 2-3 foot long manzanita branches for sale.

Flower district begins around 28th Street intersecting 6th & 7th Ave. If you're in K-town you've gone too far.

Most of the floral shops WON'T have petrified wood to sell to the public, but manzanita is plentiful.

Prices will vary depending on your negotiating skills. Some of the shops ONLY sell to florists.

I recommend you bring a prepared list of what you're looking for you'll forget once you're overwhelmed by all the various items they have to offer.

Fish based pet shops that other NY members have mentioned may be a quicker/easier solution for petrified wood that's "aquarium safe".

Cool

That doesn't surprise me the least bit about the driftwood collector, but remember this is a FLOWER industry. A lot of these items are intended for use for display purposes ONLY, often times landscaping.

That's the biggest risk you have to take if you're buying materials from the FD to add to your aquarium in an attempt to save money. As with anything, examine the item you want to purchase CAREFULLY to make sure it wasn't treated with any toxic chemicals/preservatives.

Someone else in the NY section mentioned they paid $3/lb for petrified wood @ a local fish shop, not sure which one it was though.. If you figure out which shop, mention it here & check to see if they have more pieces in the back. Also if you can take some pictures of the stack, I'd appreciate it.

Next time you see the driftwood guy, take a picture. That's what I'll do if I see him.
