Just got curious. Since they make nano tanks, I'm talking in the realm of <5 gallons and nano filters, like the one in this thread http://www.plantedtank.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4736...
are there any nano heaters out there? |

Walmart used to sell a tiny submersible preset heater. Maybe 6 inches long.
I bought one for a 2.5 gallon last year. |

Junior Heat
Small Aquarium Heater for 2 to 5 gals it has no presets, and is a pain, when water reaches 28 C/ 82F you have to unplug it, so it takes constant monitoring, I have one I will probably never use. |

I'm using that one from walmart. It's made by MarkeTech. It's 7.5watts and non-thermostatic, which means it pumps in a continuous amount of heat, rather than use a thermostat. So it will bring your tanks water about 5-10 degrees F above room temp. If that ends up over 82F, then you probably don't need a heater anyway since the room is warm enough. If the room temp fluctuates a lot, then you're better off with a small 25 watt thermostatic heater.

I'm using a 25W Hagen submersible from Petsmart in my 2g desktop hex, and it's thermostatically controlled... I've been very pleased thus far...

$300, yah right! I’ll just go with a 25 watt w/thermostat to heat my 2 1/2 and 5 gallon. Its primarily for a betta, which many keep @ room temp, but I think that’s kind of cruel. Plus my room temp is too low, ~65F.
